what is x(x+6)=0
Can't figure out equation
x(x + 6) = 0
x^2 + 6x = 0
This is an excellent chance to "complete the square."
Take half the x co-efficient, square it, and add to both sides.
x^2 + 6x + 3^2 = 0 + 3^2
x^2 + 6x + 3^2 = 3^2
Factor the left side.
(x + 3) * (x + 3) = 3^2
This tells us that (x + 3) = ±√3^2
x + 3 = +3 and x + 3 = -3
x = 3 - 3 x = -3 - 3
x = 0 x = -6
Try both of the values in the original equation.
x(x + 6) = 0
0(0 + 6) = 0
0(6) = 0
0 = 0
x(x + 6) = 0
-6(-6 + 6) = 0
-6(0) = 0
0 = 0
