The modulus sign (the two vertical bars) takes the positive value of the expresion inside it. Which means that the expression inside it could be either positive or negatiive.
So then, we can write the previous expression as
(1/5)x - 7 = 5 or -{(1/5)x - 7} = 5
i.e. (1/5)x = 12 (1/5)x - 7 = -5
x = 60 (1/5)x = 2, giving x = 10
Solution: x = 60, x = 10
