5/4x+1/8x=7/8+x

Multiply by 8 to eliminate the fractions.

8(5/4 x + 1/8 x) = (7/8 + x)8
10x + x = 7 + 8x
11x = 7 + 8x
11x - 8x = 7 + 8x - 8x
3x = 7
3x/3 = 7/3
x = 7/3

Check the answer.

5/4 x + 1/8 x = 7/8 + x
5/4 (7/3) + 1/8 (7/3) = 7/8 + 7/3
35/12 + 7/24 = 7/8 + 7/3
70/24 + 7/24 = 21/24 + 56/24
77/24 = 77/24
