Statistics show that the chances of being struck by lightning average at 1/300000, very much depending on where you live and how you live. Lotto chances are easier to work out. If there are numbers 1-N in the lotto and you pick n numbers, the chances are 1/NCn or n!(N-n)!/N1 where X factorial (denoted by X!) means X*(X-1)*(X-2)*(X-3)...*2*1.
If N=50 and n=10 this comes to 1 in 10,000,000,000 or 1 in 10 billion.
If N=40 and n=6 it comes to 1 in 3,838,380.
So for both events to occur we multiply the odds (1 in about 3,000,000,000,000,000 and 1 in about 1,000,000,000,000).
