2x-5y=-20 -3x+2y=30
Please help me understand this
Multiply the first equation by 2.
2 * (2x - 5y) = -20 * 2
3) 4x - 10y = -40
Multiply the second equation by 5.
5 * (-3x + 2y) = 30 * 5
4) -15x + 10y = 150
Add equation four to equation three.
4x - 10y = -40
+(-15x + 10y = 150)
------------------------------
-11x = 110
x = 110 / -11
x = -10
Plug that into the second equation.
-3x + 2y = 30
-3(-10) + 2y = 30
30 + 2y = 30
2y = 30 - 30
2y = 0
y = 0
You are given two equations that represent lines.
If you graph those lines, you will find that they
intersect at the point (-10, 0). The values
x = -10 and y = 0 are the only ones that
satisfy both equations.
