We can work out the miles per gallon (mpg) for each run. Remember that mpg means miles/gallons, so we expect the same ratios for each run:
110/2.75=440/11 because we can get rid of the fraction by multiplying top and bottom by 4. This makes it easier to do the calculations in this case. 440/11=40.
220/5.5=440/11 because we multiply top and bottom by 2 to get rid of the fraction. 440/11=40.
300/7.5=600/15 (multiply top and bottom by 2)=40.
430/?=40 which means ?=430/40=43/4=10 3/4=10.75 gallons, answer B.
Why do you think the answer is A? If you show your working, the way you are thinking, perhaps we can find out why.
430/10.75=1720/43=40 mpg. Always check your answer!
