Is the answer simplified if so Nice work if not please simlify

Yes, the answer is as simple as it gets. 3 in the denominator divides into 6 in the numerator, leaving 2 in the numerator of the result. The denominator 11 is unaffected. Note that “of” always means multiply. “Of” doesn’t mean “off”.

SCROLL DOWN!!!!!

What is 6/11 - 1/3?

Here's how to subtract 1/3 from 6/11:

6

11

1

3

Step 1

We can't subtract two fractions with different denominators. So you need to get a common denominator. To do this, you'll multiply the denominators times each other... but the numerators have to change, too. They get multiplied by the other term's denominator.

So we multiply 6 by 3, and get 18.

Then we multiply 1 by 11, and get 11.

Next we give both terms new denominators -- 11 × 3 = 33.

So now our fractions look like this:

18

33

11

33

Step 2

Since our denominators match, we can subtract the numerators.

18 − 11 = 7

So the answer is:

7

33

Step 3

Last of all, we need to simplify the fraction, if possible. Can it be reduced to a simpler fraction?

To find out, we try dividing it by 2...

Nope! So now we try the next greatest prime number, 3...

Nope! So now we try the next greatest prime number, 5...

Nope! So now we try the next greatest prime number, 7...

Nope! So now we try the next greatest prime number, 11...

No good. 11 is larger than 7. So we're done reducing.

There you have it! The final answer is:

6

11

1

3

=

7

33

6/11 minus 1/3 is different (1/3 off 6/11) from 1/3 times 6/11 (1/3 of 6/11).

The LCM of 11 and 3 is 33.

6/11=6×3/(11×3)=18/33 and 1/3=1×11/(3×11)=11/33.

So they both now have the same denominator, meaning we simply subtract the two numerators to give us 18-11=7, making 7/33 as the answer (you were right!). 7 and 33 have no factors in common so 7/33 is as simple as it gets. That’s quite different from 2/11 (actually it’s the same as 6/33 so it’s only 1/33 different). You might be interested to know that if the question had been “1/3 of 1/2” or “1/3 off 1/2”, the answer would have been 1/6! But in general, of and off are not the same.

The more you study numbers the more fascinating they are. Try this for number magic: multiply 142857 by the numbers 1 through 6 and see what you get. Multiply it by 7 and see what happens. Now split the number into two 3-digit numbers: 142 and 857. Add these together.
