How do you divide a whole number by an algebraic term.

  • 25x - 10                   5-2
  •     5x                =        x

My book do not give any example by display nor the rules in previous pages or chapters to help solve (simplify) this problem though the book do give the answer.

Why do the " x " remain in the answer?

I am trying to help my daughter with her homework.  They are asking for an example of an addition problem that can be solved using the distributive property and requiring 2 addends and 4 digits.

I'm thinking an answer could be 2(2222 + 1111) = 4444 + 2222 = 6666.

Does this seem correct?

I don't think that the solution using 3 twice is valid. You are required to use only the four given numbers.

The correct answer was given on Sept. 21, 2012.

(15/2) - (3/6) = 7

7.5 - 0.5 = 7
