Not quite sure what you want me to do with these, but i will solve for y in both cases. Then set them equal to eachother and solve for the variables.
y = -4x + 3
4y + x = -1 Must get this into y= form.
4y = -x -1 Now we can set the two equations equal to
y = -1/4x - 1/4 eachother
-4x + 3 = -1/4x - 1/4 Set equations equal.
-4x = -1/4x -1/4 - 3 Subtract 3 from both sides
-4x = -1/4x - 13/4 Combine like terms
-4x + 1/4x = -13/4 Add 1/4x to both sides
-15/4x = -13/4 Combine like terms
-4(-15/4x) = -4(-13/4) Multiply by -4 to both sides
15x = 13 Simplifies to this
x = 13/15 Solve for x
Now plug x into either of the original equations:
y = -4x + 3
y = -4(13/15) + 3
y = -52/15 + 3
y = -52/15 + 45/15
y = -7/15
Check to make sure y = -7/15 for both equations.
y = -1/4x - 1/4
y = -1/4(13/15) - 1/4
y = -13/60 - 1/4
y = -13/60 - 15/60
y = -28/60
y = -7/15
y = -7/15 for both equations so your answer is:
x = 13/15 and y = -7/15
