It sounds like a transformation term: two ups could mean two units up.
For example, the parent equation for a parabola is y=x2, or f(x)=x2.
The "child" equation may be y=x2+2, or g(x)=x2+2, which is exactly the same shape as f(x) but the whole graph is moved two units up. So the vertex moves from the origin (0,0) to (0,2).
Two ups may therefore be a vertical displacement of a graph.
Another example: f(x)=x-1 is a straight line inclined at an angle of 45°. g(x)=x+1 is the line with the same inclination parallel to f(x) but displaced upward by 2 units (two ups).
