pemdas: parenthesis, exponents, multiply, divide, addition, subtract

     

1 x 3 ( 34 - 20) divided by 2 + 49 = 70........ you subtract whats in the parenthesis first, there are no exponents so multiply, then there is no division so add
... even though 34 - 20 is subtraction it is in the parenthesis
