9(4y-3)-12=4(27+5y)

First, use the distributive property to get rid of the parenthesese:

36y-27-12=108+20y

=36y-39=108+20y   

Now, after combining like terms on the left side, we will subtract 20y over to the left side and add 39 over to the right side.

16y=147

y=147/16, which is 9 and 3/16, or as a decimal, 9.1875.

That was kind of a weird answer, so let's check it! Using a calculator, plug in y=9.1875. We get 291.75 on the left and 291.75 on the right. I guess some people don't know how to write normal algebra problems!
