Are these angles on a straight line? If so, 2x-9+27-4x=180, so -2x-18=180 and -2x=198, so x=-99. If they're angles in a right-angled triangle, then 2x-9+27-4x=90 and -2x=108, so x=-54.

That's a positive 18 on the left side, so we would subtract 18 from either the 90 or the 180.

Sorry, silly of me! What was I thinking of! Senior moment? But we're still left with a negative x. Yes, so it should have been -81 instead of -99 and -36 instead of -54. I guess we're none the wiser about what the question meant, and was x supposed to be an angle?
