12 - 8(3x - 5) > -7x + 29  distribute the 8 first

12 - 24x - 40 > -7x + 29

-24x + 12 - 40 > -7x + 29 rewrite with common terms together

-24x -28 > -7x + 29

-24x - 28 - 29  > -7x  subtract 29 from both sides

-24x -57 > -7x  add 24x to both sides

57 > 24x - 7x

57 > 17x

57/17 > x

3.352 > x
