I suppose this is ok with your teacher--you're learning.  Primes are numbers that only have themselves and 1 for factors.  Composites are the rest.  Composites:  for example, 60= 6 x 10, also = 6 x 5 x 2, and 3 x 20.  Whereas 2 only is 2 x 1.  Don't know if there's something similar for addition instead of multiplication.
