: (x+1)^2/x^3*[x(x+1)]/(x+1) cancelling x+1 and x from numerator and denominator (x+1)^2/x^2.

use FOIL only with 3 terms in the second parentheses: multiply each in the second () by each from the first().

(x+1)(2x^2+3x-1)=

2x^3+3x^2-x+2x^2+3x-1=

2x^3+5x^2+3x-1
