by

2(x^2-1/2 x-3)=0

(x^2-2*x*/1/4+1/16-1/16-3)=0

(x-1/2)^2- 3 1/16=0

(x-1/2)^2=49/16

x-1/2=+-(7/4)

x=7/4+1/2=9/4

x=-7/4+1/2=-5/4
