To get x alone you have to divide 1 to the other side( meaning other side of the equal sign) and the same side in order to cancel out the one and to make the number on the other side of the equal sign to a ?/1.

1/x = y

multiply both sides by x:

1 = xy

divide both sides by y:

1/y = x

swap both sides:

x = 1/y
