An exponent is the number of times you multiply a number by itself.

Example:  5^3

3 is the exponent.  That means 5 * 5 * 5

Example: 7^2

2 is the exponent.  That means 7 * 7

An exponet tells how many times a number (or base) is used as a factor. The exponet is the small number.

Ex. 7^3  

Answer: 7x7x7 or 7^3
