start by solving for c using the second equation.

Then use the value of c to solve for v in the first equation.

3c - 4.25 = 31.50
3c = 4.25 + 31.50
3c = 35.75
c = 35.75 / 3
c = 143 / 12

3c - 3v = 24
c - v = 8
v = c - 8
v = 143/12 - 8
v = 47 / 12
