Expanded form expresses the value of each digit in the numbers given in standard form.   To show what each digit is worth, there are ways of different forms in writing expanded form such as shown below:

1. Expanded numbers form: 38045.78=30000+8000+40+5+0.7+0.08

2. Expanded factors form: 38045.78=3x10000+8x1000+4x10+5x1+7x0.1+8x0.01

3. Expanded exponentials form in power of 10: 38045.78=3x10^4+8x10^3+4x10^1+5x10^0+7x10^-1+8x10^-2 

4. Expanded words form: thirty-eight thousand, forty-five and seventy-eight hundredths
