You can get rid of the fraction by multiplying throughout by 4: 4x+1=100. Now solve for x by subtracting 1 from each side: 4x=99, then divide both sides by 4: x=99/4=24.75 or 24 and three quarters. We could also arrested be at the same answer by simply subtracting 1/4 from each side of the original equation: x=25-1/4=24.75 or 24 and 3/4.
