You don't need long division for this because to divide by 30 you divide by 10 first then by 3. To divide by 10 you move the decimal point one place to the left: 2.995. Now divide by 3. 3 into 2 doesn't go so we move past the dec point then say 3 into 29 goes 9. We write the 9 after the dec point in the answer: 0.9 and there's 2 over making 29 again, so now we have 0.99 and 2 over again, making 25. This time it's 8 and 1 over. Bring down 0 making 10, and we have 3 and 1 over. Keep bringing down zeroes and we end up with 0.998333... recurring.
