3x^2 -7x +2

Ok, first find the factors of the x^2 term and the constant term (2):

3 has 3, 1, -3, & -1
2 has 2 ,1, -2, & -1

Which products can you add or subtract together to make -7 but will still multiply together to give you the same equation as you started with?:

-3 * 2 = -6
-1 * 1 = -1        we got the middle term now lets see if this will give us the same
-1 - 6 = -7         equation we started with.

(-3x + 1)(-x +2) = (-3x)(-x) + (-3x)(2) + (-x) + 2 = 3x^2 -7x + 2

Horray we did it! :D
(-3x + 1)(-x + 2) is your factored form.

the answer really is (3x+1)(x+2)... just saying

It can't be (3x+1)(x+2) because that equals 3x^2+x+6x+2 which is 3x^2+7x+2 So its (3x-1)(x-2).
