LCD is 8 because 4 and 8 both divide into it.
Add whole numbers together first: 3+1=4. Now add fractions using LCD: (5+2*3)/8=11/8=1 3/8. Add 1 to sum of whole numbers: 4+1=5 and add in fraction: 5 3/8.
