what is inverse & direct variation

trying to do homework on direct & inverse variation do not have my math notes here, in school.  Please show me definition & examples

Direct variation are those of the form y = kx.
k is a constant, and we say that y varies directly as x.
Example: y = 3x

Inverse variation are those of the form y = k / x
k is still a constant in this case, and we sat that y varies inversely as x.
Example: y = 3 / x
