Car A leaves Toronto for Montreal, 500km away, at an average speed of 80km/h. Car B leaves Montreal for Toronto on the same highway 2h later ar 100km/h. How far are they from Toronto when they pass? Show all work in simplest way possible.

t = time car A traveled, d1 = distance car A traveled, d2 = distance car B traveled

d1 = 80t
d2 = 100 (t-2) = 100t - 200
d1 + d2 = 500
80t + 100t - 200 = 500
180t = 700
t = 3.88.....       3hr 53 mins
d1 = 80t = 311.11... Km
d2 = 100t - 200 = 188.88... Km

Since car A is the one that left from Toronto, the cars are 311Km from Toronto when they pass.
