x+y=-9

x * y=-252

y=-(x+9)

x*y...-x(x+9)=-x^2 -9x=-252

or x^2+9x-252=0

anser:(x-12)(x+21)

If the numbers are a and b: ab=-252 and a+b=-9. So b=-(a+9) and -a(a+9)=-252.

-a^2-9a=-252; a^2+9a-252=0; (a-12)(a+21)=0. The two numbers are 12 and -21.
