Both fractions are 1/2. Use two number lines, one over the other. The lines are the same length representing 1 mile. Divide the top line into equal divisions of 8 and the other into equal divisions of 6. 4 divisions of the top line and 3 of the bottom coincide. Neither rode farther than the other; they both rode 1/2 mile.
