We square both sides:

(2-3j)(2-3j)=a+jb; 4-12j+9j^2=a+jb.

But j^2=-1 by definition of j, so 4-12j-9=a+jb. Therefore, -5-12j=a+jb.

Equating real and imaginary:

a=-5 and b=-12.
