Study the layout plan of a university lecture room
in Word Problem Answers by

We need a layout of the room to answer this question. For example (to scale):

At first sight EXIT 1 seems to be nearer because it's about 6 rows and 5 columns away from the exit, from a geographical point of view. From a practical point of view, Zahida cannot make her exit that way, because she must move to the central aisle first (away from EXIT 1) and walk down towards an exit, the nearer being EXIT 2, which is about 6 rows and 4 columns, plus half the width of the aisle away from from her. EXIT 1 is 6 rows and 6 columns away from her.
