Divide through by 2: a²=-3+4a.

a²-4a=-3, complete the square: a²-4a+4=4-3, (a-2)²=1, a-2=±1, so a=2±1, a=1 or 3.

a²-4a+3=0=(a-1)(a-3), a=1 or 3.
