Tickets for admission to a high school football game cost $3 for students and $5 for adults. During one game, $2995 was collected from the sale of 725 tickets. Howmany tickets were sold to students? How many tickets were sold to adults?

N.B. The numbers you gave don't work. I changed the number of tickets sold from 726 to 725.

Let number of students be S

Price of student ticket = $3

Let number of adults be A

Price of adult ticket = $5

A + S = 725           (725 tickets were sold)

5*A + 3*S = 2995   ($2995 collected for all tickets)

Substituting for A = 725 - S into the 2nd equn.

5(725 - S) + 3S = 2995

3625 - 5S + 3S = 2995

630 = 2S

S = 315

A = 725 -  315 = 410

A = 410
