What is the area of a garden which is 35 feet wide and 45 feet long?

The area is length times width=35×45=1575 square feet.

To multiply we can simplify the operation: (30+5)×45=30×45+5×45=1350+225=1575.

Or (40+5)×35=40×35+5×35=1400+175=1575.

Or (30+5)(40+5)=30×40+30×5+5×40+5×5=1200+150+200+25=

1225+350=1575.
