In a stable there are men and horses. In all, there are 22 heads and 72 feet. How many men and how many horses  tto go answer are in the stable?

If M=number of men and H the number of horses:

M+H=22 so M=22-H,

2M+4H=72=2(22-H)+4H=72,

44-2H+4H=72,

2H=72-44=28, H=14 so there are 14 horses and 8 men.
