x^2+y^2+2x-4y-4=0

  •  write out the equation:             x^2+y^2-2x+2y-23=0
  • now group the like trems:        x^2-2x+Y^2+2y-23=0
  • put the parentheses arond the like terms:     (x^2-2x)+(y^2+2y)-23=0
  • now make each parentheses a perfect square (don't forget what you to one side you have to do the other side) : (x^2-2x+1)+(y^2+2y+1)-23=2
  • simplify thw equation: (x-1)^2+(Y+1)^2-23=2
  • add 23 to bothe side to get the radius: (x-1)^2+(y+1)^2=25
  • so the answer in: (x-1)^2+(y+1)^2= 25
