x2+x-1=0,

x2+x=1,

x2+x+¼=1¼=5/4,

(x+½)2=5/4,

x+½=±√5/2, x=-½±√5/2, x=½(√5-1) or -½(√5+1), that is, 0.618 or -1.618 approx. (Basis of the Golden Ratio.)
