start: 5y+1=8y+6y-5

5y-8y-6y=-5-1

-9y=4

y=-4/9
by

5y+1=8y-5+6y

+5 to both sides

5y +6 = 8y +6y, or

5y +6 = 14y

-5y from both sides

6 = 9y

/9 to both sides

6/9 = y

y = 2/3
