4x - 5 = x + 13

4x - x - 5 = x - x + 13

3x - 5 = 13

3x - 5 + 5 = 13 + 5

3x = 18

(3x)/3 = 18/3

(3/3)x = 6

 

So the solution is x = 6                                                smiley
