The geometric mean of a certain number and 6 is 24. Find the number.

Is there a formula to calculate geometric mean? I don't know how to solve this. Please give an explanation of what the geometric mean is and how it is calculated. Thanks.

In this case there are two numbers one is six and the other is unknown

We are given the value of 24 as the geometric mean for these two numbers.

Let the unknown number be x n in this case is 2

(6x) ^1/2 = 24 square both sides

6x = 576

x = 96

To check

( 6 times 96)^1/2 = (576) ^1/2 = 24
