The way the second sentence is written tells the reader that OF the 7 gray kittens, two are black, which can not be physically possible because they are gray. Therefore, the question must be rewritten in order to properly solve this: There are 7 grey kittens AND two black kittens. This was a question on my daughter's first-grade math homework and it's embarrassing that this questions made it into the book. Horrible writing.
