x = 5 + (1/2)y

x + y = 47

x = 47 - y

47 - y = 5 + (1/2)y

94 - 2y = 10 + y

94 = 10 + 3y

84 = 3y

28 = y

x = 47 - 28

x = 19

One number is 19.  The other number is 28.
