The question is impossible to solve because it contradicts itself.

Any lesser number minus any greater number will generate a negative result, not a positive result, so a lesser number minus a greater number can not be 13.

If you meant greater minus lesser then:

x + y = 35

x - y = 13

2x = 48

x = 24

24 - y = 13

-y = -11

y = 11
