Product of cot and tan = 1, by definition of cotangent.

Rewrite expression in terms of cos(x):

(1-cos²(x))²+2(1-cos²(x))cos²(x)+cos⁴(x)=

1+cos⁴(x)-2cos²(x)+2cos²(x)-2cos⁴(x)+cos⁴(x)=1, QED
