1) 8x - 8y = -8

2) 5x - 3y = 1

multiply eq(1) by 3, eq(2) by -8, add:

 24x  -  24y  =  -24

-40x  +  24y  =  -8

______________

-16x               = -32

x = -32/-16 = 2

using eq(2):

5(2) - 3y = 1

-3y = -9

y = -9/-3 = 3

check using eq(1):

8(2) - 8(3) = -8

16 - 24 = -8

-8 = -8

x = 2, y = 3  or  (2, 3)
