i have the answer but i don't understand what is going on in  the part with the 12x...everything else makes sense. Why 12 x?

(3x -2)^2 - 3(3x + 2) +1 distribute first

(3x - 2)(3x - 2) -9x -6 +1  (-12x is -6x + -6x)

9x^2 -12x +4 -9x -5

9x^2 -21x -1
