Assume that "number" means "integer" (whole number).

If n is the number then assume that n-1 is the "previous number", and:

3n-2(n-1)=2013, 3n-2n+2=2013, n=2011.

CHECK

3 times 2011=6033. 2 times 2010=4020.

6033-4020=2013.
