If we have two integers a and b, where a<b, then a fraction=a/b. If a and b have a common factor c so that a=pc and b=qc, then the fraction reduces to pc/qc=p/q. All fractions can be expressed as the quotient of two such integers, reduced in such a way that there are no common factors. The fraction is then said to be in its simplest form.
