4x^2+3x-1=0, if you are factoring then its (x+1)(4x-1), if you are solving for x then one step further x=-1, x=1/4, {-1, 1/4}

4x^2+3x-1=0 ,you factorise:4x^2+4x-1x-1=0,4x(x=1)-1(x=1),(4x-1)(x+1)=0 which is then furthur solved as 4x-1=0 and x+1=0...........so X=(-1,1/4)
