SA = 54 cm^2

There are 6 sides to a cube they are the same diemensions l * l.

SA = 6l^2

54 = 6 l^2               divide by 6 on both sides of the equal sign

54/6 = l^2

9 = l^2                    take the square root of both sides

+ or -3 = l               the answer is +3.  The value of a side is never negative
